Where exactly is voltage regulator on 1982 242 DL? 200 1982

Can someone give me the exact location of my voltage regulator? The pictures in my book thoroughly confuse me. It looks like it is the little squarish box on firewall/driver's side, but I was told it is attached (externally) to the alternator. Also, is there a seperate regulator for the instrument cluster or are they referring to the same one? Thanks in advance.........Payne
