I recall reading somewhere in my search thru the archives on water pump replacement, that someone doing that job broke off their bolts. Haynes recommends 16 ft. lbs. That is not much, and is about an average tightness. Certainly under that of spark plugs, though plugs have tougher bigger diameter threads. Volvo does specify that all torque specs are given with oiled threads in mind. However, I do not have a certified Volvo repair manual. I have a Bentley and Haynes. Bentley is silent of the torque spec for the water pump bolts. Btw, I like the idea of torquing to get everything nice and even on the bolt tension.

In fact, while we are on this subject, what are your opinions for these Haynes torque specs also:

Fan Clutch nuts -- 15 ft. lbs. ...

Fixed Fan nuts -- 7 ft. lbs. What does this mean? ...

Center fan Bolt -- 60 ft. lbs. - This seems like a possible high torque for a fan bolt ...

thank you--diyer
