On my '86 245, I have gone through most of my problems since its acquisition in
February. I have one little piddling issue with the engine that I would like to get rid of. Its not that big of a deal, I would just like to make it right. When the engine is returning to idle, the engine speed drops down for about half a second and then comes up to a steady idle. I checked the microswitch for the Idle Motor, and it is adjusted properly and making a good crisp "click" when the switch makes contact. I am assuming that the idle motor is a solenoid controlled valve that turns to open the air passage for idle conditions. Does it sound like I need to check out the idle motor and maybe take it apart and clean it? Or is there another possible culprit? Here is a list of the things I have done so far to the car mechanically:
- new timing belt
- new plugs, distributor cap, & rotor
- new in-tank fuel pump
- installed used sending unit (sensing mechanism for fuel level had fallen off)
- installed a good used fuel tank (original was gunked up)
- new main fuel pump
- bought an extra AMM (known good) and installed it
- flame trap filter replacement
