A million questions about B16s and 1958 445s 444-544

I think I'm going to keep my B16 for a while. It's a rather wierd animal compared to the B18s I'm used to.

It's got some sort of cartridge oil filter that fits into a can (I think). Will the standard Mann filter fit on here? If not, what's a good filter to put in there?

The accelerator linkage looks unusual to me. It comes up behind the block, comes around, and pulls down on the SU HS4's. It's all bodged together with hardware store springs and bailing wire. Can anyone tell me what year and model Volvos had this setup so I can be on the lookout for used, better pieces?

I have a 4 speed transmission. The PO was telling me he thinks the guy he bought it from swapped the trans and rear end for better highway behavior. How do I know if I've got an M40? Was there ever a Volvo 4 speed transmission in the B16/18 configuration that wasn't an M40?

For future reference, If I want to put a B18 or B20 in here, I know the motor mounts are different. My understanding is that I can unbolt the B16 mounts from the motor, put them on the bigger moter and most everything else is a bolt in. Well, I guess the accelerator linkage would have to change with HS6s. Anything else?

Lastly, for a 12V conversion...Things to replace: All bulbs, turn signal flasher, generator, regulator, put a zener diode in the gas tank circuit, rear wiper motor out of a 245, battery... Anything I'm forgetting?

As always, thanks for the help!
