Thule Roof Rack Install 900

I just bought a used Thule roof rack for my '93 945T. It fits fine, but when tightening it to the gutters, the inside part of the bracket makes contact with the side of the roof. (If I continue to tighten it, it will cause a dimple in the side of the roof, and the paint will get dinged)
It seems like I could correct the problem by bending the bracket (maybe squeeze it in a vice).

Anyone else with a Thule rack? Any thoughts?
