tensioning timing belt 900 1996

Hello all,

I plan to to tension the timing belt of my 945. I read in the Haynes Manual that I have bring the piston 1 to TDC position. Is that right? Does it break something when I tension the timing belt regardless of the piston position?

Car:
Volvo 945
Year 1996
2.3 l Ti
