Preparing for long trips in summer temperatures 200

I will be taking my 1987 240 to continental Europe this summer. First a pilgrimage stop at Torslanda/Gothenburg of course, then into into Poland and the Czech Republic, through Germany, northern France and finally through the Be-Ne-Lux countries before we return to Norway. So my 16 years old brick that normally runs shorter trips at sub-60 speeds in temps of max mid-70s will now be introduced to Autobahn speeds. For hours. Possibly/probably in high temperatures. A sure receipe for engine disaster if there ever was one!

Helpful hints for the trip will be extremely welcome. I think I can figure out the obvious ones myself: I have just done an oil change (synthetic), and I will keep an extra quart in the car. I will check oil and coolant levels at every gas stop. I will not go above 70 mph for the first few hours, after that I assume at least some of the carbon build-up has been blown out. And I'll keep a keen eye on the temp gauge. Anything else? Useful stuff I should bring along? Is it possible to perform an emergency repair if the cooling fan clutch breaks down? Etc.

Thanks in advance -

Erling.
