Gas Tank 1800 1968

As I was scrapping the old tar paper from the top of the 1968 1800s I am working on, I discovered that the top of the tank was coming off too!!! I have been made an offer by one fellow for a tank, and gathered that the tank in the 1968 is different in some way. Is this the case, or there other years that will fit?

By the way, if anyone has a spare one, let me know off Board
