Well, after my little backfire incident and the subsequent oil leak, I reached around for a while and finally got ahold of where the flame trap was... well, where it was suposed to be, at least. The upper plastic connector with the two nipples was dislodged from the oil breather box. There was NO flame trap in either that piece or the breather box. There was oil all over those parts and the vicinity. The larger hose that leads into the intake tube was disconnected from the tube. Whatever ocurred seems to have blown the flame trap clear out of the car, or, it just wasn't there. Both nipples on the upper piece were completely clogged with hardened, dried sludge. I tried scraping and prodding, and that removed a lot, but ended up having to soak the thing in acetone to completely clean it. Now the big question is this: How hard is it to remove the oil breather box and clean it? Is it just the two bolt visible from the side holding it on? Will it make a giant mess? Please advise.
