After reading the FAQ on the M46 and type-J transmissions Im still in the dark as to why my transmission gets hot. Not just warm but HOT. I started off with Mercon before I knew about the issues and since flushed it out and replaced the oil with type-F, that cured the lazy OD shift but did not cure the heating. I measured the oil temp via type-K thermocouple stuffed into a drilled out oil fill plug and drove 60 miles on the highway and found the oil at 292F running 60 MPH. Another issue is the OD feels like it slips during 1st gear moderate acceleration sort of like a "grunt" for the first 5-10 feet then grabs, ideas? I had the trans apart during the motor rebuild (goes like a diesel rocket) and found almost nothing on the drain magnet and just the light dusting on the OD pan strip magnet so I dont think anything is worn out but Im rather puzzled with this one. Motor runs at 175F average so its not all conduted heat from the block and I dont chase offenders on a regular basis. Im out of ideas with this one here. Anyone refill my brain?

BTW many have asked how my super-diesel turned out.... 7.5 seconds 0-60 at 16 PSIg boost with slight smoke. Getting 46 MPG at 70 MPH and I have yet to top it out on the testing track against the new squads, should be intresting later this month.
