Life span on turbo oil return line o-ring? 200 1985

Hi everyone. Well, in about Dec. or so I replaced my exhaust manifold gaskets and at the same time did the oil return line from the turbo's o-ring (where the oil line press fits into the block) and now the new one's totally shot, is that normal for them to not last long? Admittedly I drive it pretty hard and for a few days had un-regulated boost (allowing me to over boost it, which I did a couple times, into the red on the turbo gauge). I could see that maybe blowing it out, but it's all melted and really just destroyed. Any ideas what might cause that? How long have others had them last?
Thanks
