760 Shift knob 700 1984

Can anyone please tell me how to re-assemble the shift knob to the shaft in my 760 turbo? It is a 1984 760, manual transmission with an overdrive switch on the knob. When the shift knob was pulled off the shaft accidentally, the OD switch wires were unlatched as well. The wires don't seem to be long enough to to engage the terminals and reattach the knob without some trick. Any help would be appreciated.
