Well I've look through the archives and the answer is not there. Last winter I had problems with the wagon dying on me, it turned out to be the in tank pump. I used a pump from a VW rabbit (a new one, couldn't get a Volvo one in time) it does the job. Six months go by, all is well, then, I noticed that when the tank gets below 1/3, there is an intermitant sharp buzzing that sounds almost related to the engine shake of the venerable 2.3L. The buzzing is not your typical hum, whiz, or whirr/whine that normal fuel pumps make, this is at least 5 times louder than that. Now thinking that I had the classic "short piece of hose at the prepump" was shot, I pulled up the cover on the tank and took a look. The hose is in place and in good condition. I did see one thread that theorized about the tank level in relation to main pump noise as it may have to work harder but I would have thought that should be in the realm of more whirring not obnoxious buzzing. The cars performance is not hindered by the noise, but it is annoying. I'm not convinced that the FPR is the culprit as I would have expected the noise anytime the car is running/fuel system under pressure. I don't know... it's incentive to keep the tank full! Any other thoughts?
