rear brake rotors 200 1988

I have this strange humming/rubbing/whirring noise coming from under and behind me in the car (245 GL). I can hear the pitch go up and change as speed increases, so it must be a problem with the running gear.

I tried jacking one wheel off the ground, then putting the trans in Drive with motor running, to get everything spinning. But when I put my head underneath, there is just too much noise to determine the origin.

I figure it has got to be the carrier bearing, or maybe rear axle bearings or brakes rubbing. But I cannot isolate the problem. But i also nee dot know how to remove the rear hub so that I can get to the rear bearings. Does this require a special socket or something??? Has anyone else ever experienced this??

The other thing is that, my rear wheels seem to be rusted onto the hubs really tightly. I had new tires put on when i first get the car, and now I can get one rear wheel off, but the other is a bear. I've tried beating it with a hammer to no avail. So i cannot even get to the rotor. Any ideas? I may jus thave to take it to a shop and see how they can break it loose.

TIA,
Jason
