Hi,

Just returned from a quickie vacation to Vegas. I live in L.A. and I drove my trusted old 87 745T w. 264K miles. It's about 260 miles each way. I was pretty confident that the car would make it there and back without any problems, since I recently installed a new radiator,heater valve, hoses, thermostat & coolant.

As I was climbing up a 10 mile long hill, the car suddenly started to loose power and I was forced to pull over. As I came to a stop the idle was very low and the engine stalled. The temp gage was in the normal range, but when I opened the hood the engine seemed very hot.

So, I let the car sit for about 10-15 minutes and then started it up and since it ran ok, I continued up the hill, trying to stay off the turbo. I only made it another couple of miles when the car lost power again. I pulled over and let the engine cool down again. This time I was able to make it over the top and tried to stay off the turbo the rest of the way and did not have any more problems...

On the way home I stayed off the turbo and made it all the way home without any problems. It was very hot going through the desert...

There is no smoking or unusual oil consumption or coolant loss... Could the engine have overheated without the temp gage showing it?
