high whir in turbo 700

1989 740 Turbo wagon - Turbo has developed a high end whir during acceleration....still plenty of boost though. Car has 225K and runs OK...has been fairly well manitained. I like the car...but I suspect the turbo is getting ready to go. Any thoughts on prolonging the life of the turbo? I know the turbo replacement can be quite expensive.....Do you think the turbo repair would be worthwhile given the mileage?
