How to remove a stuck 740 clutch slave cylinder?

I had the same failure as Erwin - the clutch pushrod pushed right through the plastic bush and on through the throwout lever. Unfortunately, the slave cylinder took some damage in the form of a cut seal and some scoring on the bore, so it's time for a new one. Question is, how do I free up a stuck slave cylinder? My car is an '89 740 Turbo, with the M-47. The slave cylinder slides into the same sleeve on the bell housing as holds the cable, in cable operated clutches. I got the snap ring off easily enough, but the slave cylinder is truly stuck. Anyone know a trick, or do I just use the bigger hammer?

Also, is the throwout fork supposed to have a hole right through the metal where the plastic bush on the throwout pushrod goes? The question is whether my throwout fork has worn through, or whether this hole is normal. Can the throwout fork be changed with the transmission in the car?

Thanks in advance.
