My 1986 740 Turbo has piston slap noise on start-up.
Valve cap seals were replaced and valve adjustment done. Oil changes done religiously every 2000 miles...currently using 10W40.
I don't hear anything when driving, and the motor is strong, smooth, and no smoke. I believe the turbo bearing is passing a bit of oil, but compression is even right across and well within spec. Now has 150K miles and most people can't believe the car is 1986.
I understand from the reading I have read that piston slap noise should go away after warm-up. When I pull into the garage after a jaunt the piston slap noise is still audible as with cold start. My Volvo shop says not to worry but I am interested in a second opinion.
Also, is it possible to purchase a complete short block assembly with pistons and crank, etc. If major work is required I'm not interested in a partial fix.
