Dead Battery 200 1985

Today, I went to take the car out, to find it barely cranked. The battery had a has a low charge. Five to Seven days ago it did the same thing; we used the jumper cables and got the Volvo running again. The voltage regulator and battery are about two or three months old. I paid about $90 for the battery of the same brand that my previous battery lasted seven years. Thought this was the battery to get, right? I'm not sure why the battery is losing a charge like this!? Could it be the 25amp fuse under the hood, the wiring harness, or a bad battery cable (i replaced the poss. battery cable with the new battery). Could the battery be defective all this time for some reason? I haven't gone to the parts place to get it checked out yet. I had also heard of an idea to test the alt... starting the car up after jumping it, then taking the poss. battery cable off (if it dies, the alt. is supposed bad?) but the car stayed running! I recently cleaned the wire connections bolted to the alt. with some steel wool (while the battery was disconnected). Although the wiring harness looks alright, I can't find any history on a replacement throughout the cars life. Also, it would be good to meantion that all the belts are tensioned correctly. I'm hoping someone can help, and that it's a small inexpensive repair... as always :-) As always, thx everyone.
