Just bought 94 945T has oil leaks hopefully not from main seal but pcv back flow
Anyway got it home parked overnight and went to start. Starter froze on and smoke came out of shift handle. Turned off car and tried to start in neutral same thing . Afraid of burning wiriing harness took off battery cable. Went to start after talking to mechanic could not go in neutral anymore would not turn over either. After reading here took console apart (didn't need too) just use shiftlock override and started it in neutral. Still got smoke and have to quickly move to park or starter keeps reeling. Is this the neutral switch because smoke seems to be coming under shift lever not from side. I didn't realize this was typical problem for volvos and think it should be red starred. Anyway I got it started but wonder if i should go under car and bypass something and/or take lever apart or is it deffinetly switch, which from reading I can get to (thanks to articles here) but not 940 specific. Or was this oil leak related and will happen again - soaking wires causing it to arc/fuse together and how can i tell if blow by or main seal. P.S. this site is great
