steering problems 200

Our 1986 245 DL is having steering problems. Actually, it's had steering problems for quite some time, but they don't bother me. Now that it's my husband's car, he's wants them fixed. The power assist works occasionally, and it is starting to feel like the rack is gone, or going. We are looking for another 170,000+ miles out of this car (it's really quite wonderful), so we are thinking about just doing it all. Any suggestions or experiences would be great. Is a rebuilt rack o.k.? OEM vs aftermarket on hoses, etc? Thanks!
