Muffler/resonator 900 1993

The muffler and resonator in my 1993 940 (141,000 Mi) both have rusted holes in them and the car is getting louder. The rest of the system and pipes are fine. Local muffler shop wants $325 to replace them. I was thinking of cutting them off, and wire-feed welding an aftermarket muffler and pipe to the system myself, eliminating the resonator. Is there any reason not to do this?
