fuel pump relay 200 1985

i have a 240 and fuel pump will not stay on. replaced the fuel pump relay and i also replaced the ignition switch which was bad. the fuel pump turn on when you turn the ignition to position 1 and when to try to crank the car the fuel pump doesnt stay on. i am tired of jumping the fuel pump relay with a nail to keep the fuel pump on. any help would be great. i read somewhere where there is a connector on the distributer that breaks and causes the the problem i have. i dont know. thanks. i have 210k miles on the car and i have had it for 7 years. idont want to change out my brick. i enjoy it alot. thanks
