My brick is eating Timing Belts!!!!! 200 1980

ok, well sort of. The trouble started after I replaced all the seals, and water pump, thermostat and of course the timing belt, and tensioner. The first one was a victim of the tensioner bolt coming loose, fixed that trouble, and now the replacement belt just tore in half, on I 76 in Philly no less. So what would cause a new belt to be torn in 2? I can't figure it out. Put the new belt on on the highway and drove it home without incident. Everything seems to be aligned, I don't see any wobbling and the belt is not being forced over the edge of the sprockets. Can't see why this belt tore in 2. Is there something I'm missing?
Thanks....
