Rear Lights Not Working on 245 200 1978

A taxi driver kindly pointed out that the rear lights on my 1978 245 weren't working the other night.
I pulled over and checked it out, brakes and indicators ok, but no rear lights.
Have checked bulbs and fuses, fuses ok, one bulb was burnt out. I replaced the bulbs but to no avail.
To make matters worse, I've mislaid my workshop manual, any ideas anyone?
