Dash bulbs 900 1995

Intermittently I have to tap the top of the dash to get one of the instrument cluster lights to illuminate.

Do I have a bad bulb or maybe a loose connection somewhere?

If it is the bulb, what's the best way to remove the wood grain without damage?
