Staying With R12 - Big Repair Soon 200 1990

I am sticking with R12 in my 1990 240 AC system. The system leaks bad and needs a new compressor, air dryer, and hose from compressor to condensor (with two o-rings). I have had the system evacuated of remaining refrigerent by a local shop. I have all the parts, and I am going to replace them myself, then have the shop charge it up. The compressor looks like a bugger to get out, but presume I can carefully move air intake bellows and hoses out of the way temporarily. Looks like entire lower mounting bracket could be disconnected and compressor removed, then crescent shaped bracket replaced on new compressor prior to mounting. Also, need all belts and the timing belt replaced, will replace these in same repair job. I have time on my side, not in a hurry.
Is there anything I should know before I start? (instructions manuals on
replacement of A/C parts are pretty sketchy at best)
