940 overdrive shifts late 900 1989

My 93 940 turbo wagon has a new affliction. when the car runs at normal operating temperature the shift into overdrive is delayed. If i accererate normaly it will not shift into overdrive until I pass 3500rpm & backn off the gas. I really have a problem when I am driving in the 40-55 mph range with the transmission kicking down into 3rd at about 45 mph or at the slightest touch of the gas pedal. I have a re-worked (channel cut with dremel ) od solinoid that stopped working. What is my next step?
