What tools are needed to "grap", turn and adjust the linkage in the automatic transmission tunnel on a 1991 240?
I was in a minor traffic accident, hit in the rear bumper, which caused minor fender/trim damage and knocked my transmission shift indicator out of sync. Instead of P-R-N-D, now [P]ark puts the car in reverse, [R]everse is neutral, [N]eutral is drive, etc.. I have had the engine mounts replaced, and last week I replaced the transmission mount. This barely helped. The shift indicator is still out of alignment by half an inch.
I assume I will have to adjust the automatic transmission shift linkage now. But how do I TURN the adjusting screws? The linkage is too high up the transmisison tunnel to use a standard wrench, pliers, etc.. There is no space or leverage to turn it. Has anybody ever done this adjustment? What kind of tools did you use???
