Vacuum Retard? 1800

I’ve read some postings here about removing the vacuum retard on the B20F engine. I‘ve heard it gives the car more power off the line, is the true? I have two cars with the B20F engine right now and the 142E could especially use some more low end get up and go, and the 1800ES hand the vacuum retard capped off when I bought it. So my question is, should I remove and cap off the vacuum retard? If I do this what happens?
