There's an '85 240 Turbo sedan in the local pick-and-pull scrap yard and it's existance is soon to be terminated via the crusher. Do any of you brickboarders out there need parts? (you would have to pay the cost and the shipping, or I can hold them until you can make it up my way to West Michigan, 49460)
Upon inspecting the Turbo, it appears to be a Garret, with a '96 build date on the outside housing. I think it's a T3, but I could be wrong since my knowledge of Turbos is a bit limited. It has both the oil cooler lines and the water cooler lines and seems to be intact.
As for the rest of the car, it's black leather (only the driver's seat shows signs of wear), power windows, sunroof (with front wind deflector), and seems to have been well kept. The brakes are new, and the front calipers appear to be new as well.
So far, the only things that have been removed are: Sway Bars, power window switches, gauges, tach (all by me), and someone else has grabbed the front driver's side caliper, the intercooler, the oil cooler, some of the intake ductwork, and the wheels. Everything else looks to be complete (including the leather seats which are in mint condition except for the driver's side). The wiring harness appears to be original, but in good/acceptable condition. (Our cooler Michigan temperatures tend to be gentle on the biodegradable wiring harnesses).
Is there anything off this car that anybody out there would like? Is it worth buying the Turbo and putting it on the shelf for possible future sale, or are these pretty common and I should let it get crushed? Also, what about the head? -Does anybody out there need a set of Sodium filled exhaust valves? I pulled the sway bars and the switches in expetation that somebody would want to use them. Please feel free to email me if you have an interest in them.
If it weren't for the abandoned vehicle sticker on the window and the fact that the scrap yard is under contract to crush the vehicle, it would probably be still on the road. A sad day for this Volvo... -it looks to have lead a pampered life.
God bless,
Fitz Fitzgerald.
