What's involved in replacing the In tank Pre pump? 200 1980

I'm getting the good old "runs well on a full tank of gas, but pretty sloppy on half a tank or less" from the '80 245 DL.

All signs (At least, what I've read) seem to point to it being the in tank pre pump. The car runs pretty good when I have a full tank of gas, but when I get past it being half full (and ESPICALLY if I go into the red) the car starts jumping about like it's getting starved of fuel one second, then suddenly jolts forward.

Slowing the clutch doesn't have much of an effect.

What's involved in replacing the in tank pre pump? Does the whole gas tank have to come out? If so, how does one access it on a wagon? (I know where it is on my '77 244 sedan, but don't know where it is on the wagon).

Thanks as usual. I'm sure I'll have more questions later...
