Wiring harness differences79-82 200

From Dave's Wiring Harness Page I gather that the 79-82 engine harnesses should all be the same.

I found a '79 that looked perfect, but it had a smaller connector block at the firewall. No sweat, that explains the "adapter" mentioned on the above page.

Then I found a couple '80's, but they were junk. On to 81/2. Here's where it gets weird. They had the correct large connector... but instead of all 7-8 wires running down to the block, a couple ran over to a second large connector, and wires from this second connector ran back to the engine harness assy, where they were taped in with it. On top of this, wires from this second block ran straight back into the firewall.

Needless to say, I didn't find a usable harness, but I'm seriously confused. What's this second connector block? What is it running to inside the car?
