Should I pick up a 1980 262? 200 1980

A neighbor came by and said he had a 1980 262 GL with 56,000 original miles on it... He's asking about $1000 for it.

Here's what I'd like to know.

My family once had a '79 264 GL, but we sold it because we had heard bad things about the engine. Never experienced them, but heard them from our mechanic none the less.

Now, I'll be checking out this 262 sometime within the next week. What should I look for?

I know the basics with the 240, but I don't know much about the 6 cylinder variety. Should I even be looking at this thing? What is it exactly about the 6 cylinder engines that is so bad?

Assuming there is no rust, what should I be looking to pay? They guy said the interior was in great shape, no tears in the leather seats, working AC, etc...

If nothing else, I can pass the info on to another brickboarder in Oregon.

Thanks as always.
