What's wrong with my tranny? or How must will it cost to rebuild a 240 tranny? 200 1988

My transmission is acting a little "hinky" lately. When cold, it doesn't like to shift until 3500 rpm or so. And other times, you will be a stopped, and the tranny will "slip" a little before finally going forward.

A few questions: Any ideas of what's wrong? How would I check these things? If I was going to have it rebuilt (like at Aamco or something) any idea of the cost?
