Odd Steering Problem ? 200

I had, what was to me a very strange encounter with my 1989 240 today. I was taking a left turn (turning at a normal speed) and the car seemed to lose control. It felt like it was gliding back and forth as if it were on ice. It seemed to only go a few feet in each direction. (maybe similar to fishtailing). But there was no tire screeching. The steering felt very light as if it weren't connected for a few seconds. In my 18 years of driving, I've never experienced anything like that. The whole incident felt so strange to me, I almost think it was just my imagination. But I know better and I've learned to trust my instincts with my car. Any idea what this could be. I had tie rods and ball joints replaced about 2 years ago. In the 3 years I've had the car, I have not have struts or shocks worked on. Someone suggested CV joints. Do these cars even have CV joints? Thank you so much for any help you can give.
