Ok, went to look at cars this afternoon after getting one hell of a raise. So, on the way home the current 89 740 GL got mad and started messing up. Had driven about 90 miles. Stopped at a store and that's when the trouble began. Has hesitation on acceleration, bucking etc. Then when I limped home it died. Would not start normally but when it did decide to start would not idle. If I tried to keep the car running with the accelerator at about 2000 rpm the engine would surge from 1500-2500 rpm and gradually die down and quit. Had noticed on the way home that it didn't want to idle normally and seemed to have less punch on acceleration. Let it sit awhile and it seems to be running fine now. Here's what I've done in the last few months. New timing belt about 10K miles ago. New plugs, new crank sensor. Re soldered the fuel pump relay (and can hear the fuel pump run even when it's not starting.) Changed the radio suppression relay. Along with other non-performance items, radiator hoses, bushings etc. So, any ideas? Maybe fuel pressure reg? Seems to be very temp related. Didn't show hot but let it cool down awhile and it seems to be running fine now. What's that little box inside the left fender? Maybe breaking down under heat? Coil breaking down under heat? Know I'll find it but would like some help.
See follow up post on advice on what to buy. Need to get this one running to trade it off.
Thanks
Ben
