Okay, y'all, I'm still workin on reviving my beast.... Here's where I'm at. It's getting fuel - changed the filter, pump works, etc. I checked the plugs, which were BADLY gas-fouled (definitely gas, not oil). I changed the plugs, and it ran, though not very well (some pinging on acceleration and uphill). After a short trip, I parked it, tried to start it an hour later and it started but died when put in gear and wouldn't start again. I checked the plugs to see if they'd fouled again - they looked to have some carbon on them, but not bad enough to keep it from starting. Changed them anyway, but without effect. SO, in short, whatever's failed is delivering too little fuel (pinging under load) at times but too much (fouling) at others. Any idea of a good culprit? I've already changed the AMM without effect - and it does no better with it unplugged. One other thought: I smelled gas for about a week before the no-start situation started. Thanks!
