Disable Climate Control? 700 1984

The climate control does not work on my '84 760 turbo diesel, and I'm wondering if there is a way to rig it so I can just turn the fan(s) on/off, and select heat or vent. I don't need AC. Currently I'm removing the glove box and moving this "thing" left or right to turn the heat on and off and I'm pulling the fuse to turn the fan off. I just bought the car and other than this it's great, but I think this'll get old pretty fast. Thanks in advance for your help.
