Cold Start Injector 200

I have a 85 240ti B21ft and when I disconnect the wire connector to the cold start injector the engine won't start,also if the engine is running and I disconnect the wire connection the engine stalls.I guess my question is this normal or is there a problem somewhere? How do you test the cold start injector? Charlie
