Turbo Replacement 700

I have an '88 740 TIC with a worn out turbo. What are my replacement options?
My current turbo is a Garrett T3 and doesn't look like it can be rebuilt (worn impeller and possible housing wear).

Should I stick with the original type or opt for a newer version. Are there any performance advantages? I can find plenty of the later Garrett and Mitsubishi turbos around. Will either work on my car without major modification? I would assume I would need to change exhaust manifold with the Mitsubishi. Any other interchange considerations (plumbing, wiring, etc.)?
