Question for the OD Guru

Hi Duane,

I didn't follow thru on this a few weeks ago (in another thread), so here goes:

I have an OD from an older (10-spline) tranny. It has "discernible" clutch material on it, with no sign of burning or undue wear (are there ever such signs?) The data plate Serial No. says: 25/115657/ 009114.

I got into it as a learning experience about a year ago. Had it pretty well apart, except for relief valve. I think I could manage the basic "rebuild" of seals, etc. I'd like to use one of your kits to make it a replacement for Son 1's '86 240, with 245K (I replaced, bearings, input gear, idler, etc. in the M46 at 194K after Son 2 trashed it. Still OK).

THE QUESTION: Will this OD mate up to the '86 M46 OK? I think it will, because the Planet Carrier and Uni-Clutch teeth are 20-spline. When I put the OD back on the old tranny, I used a cut-off 20-spline plastic clutch tool epoxied to a dowel to align them. Seemed to work well.

I'd like to make it ready for a weekend swap sometime, as the '86 is 200+ miles away. And it would save time to have this one all ready to go in. That will give me a back-up OD to play with.

Please let me know what you think. Email is bkyoung_315@hotmail.com
Thanks,
