Question for the OD Guru

A direct swap is possible...As long as you do not get a "new" thrust washer (number 56 on the images I send) and use it to rebuild the OD.

Reason: During the 1979 production run, a new output shaft (55) and thrust washer (56) were intruduced in the OD to better hold the thrust washer in place. The numbers match the images I send out.

For this change, the depth of the groove in the output shaft was deepened and a new thicker thrust washer was used to take up the new difference so the output shaft of the tranny did not change.

For a direct swap, the thrust washer would have to be the original to the OD or replaced with one of the same thickness.

Since you are going to do the rebuild yourself, be sure to watch that thrust washer if you wish to replace it.

Contact me off ist for info on the kit and anything else you may need. The Walrus has my address correct.

Duane
