IAC test procedure 1986 240 DL 200 1986

"
A simple test to be sure it IS the IAC system: Engine idling at whatever speed it idles at. With a pair of pliers gradually close one of the hoses from the IAC. If the idle goes down, the IAC is not doing its job.
"

Do you mean if the idle DOES NOT go down, the IAC is not doing its job.??

Seems like that if you cut off the air supply then you are going to ensure the situation where there is no air going through the IAC, like if it wasn't working??

Huh now I'm confused, the idle should go down when I clamp the hose right?? Or should it go up??

Maybe I've been looking at it too long....
(I'm really am getting a Bentley manual, hooraay)

Thanks for all the help!
