Oil-Eating Turbo 200 1984

I recently aquired a 1984 240 turbo 4sp OD for pretty cheap. Now - I've owned several other Volvos but this is my first turbo. The previous owner warned me that it does burn some oil, but he didn't elude to exactly how much oil it goes through. I have come to discover that it's burning a lot! I changed the oil right after I got it and filled it up with four quarts - double checked level on dip stick and it's perfect. This morning when I was filling up the tank I checked the level and it was a full 2 quarts low! Since the oil change I've driven maybe 400-500 miles. Never have I had a Volvo burn so much. I park in the same spot every night and have not noticed and leaks in the driveway and there is no big oil deposits/leaks in the engine compartment that have presented themselves yet.
As this is my first turbo I'm not great with all the extra issues/things-to-consider here. Any advice on what to look for, etc. is helpful. i.e. Why is it going through the oil at such a pace?
