Trying to love it, but . . . 200

More on my just acquired 1988 240 with 78,000 miles. I spent 8 months looking for a really nice one because I loved everything the car stands for - but I never really focused on how much I liked to drive it. Don't get me wrong, I like taking it out, but the ride really is much harsher than I expected. I own an S80 and before that I always drove big Fords, so of course I'm used to a softer (yes, maybe mushy) ride. I thought I could get used to this, but despite new tires, I still find the ride a bit bone rattling, and the accompanying shakes in the dash a little annoying. Hopefully I will get used to this, but is there something I could do to soften the ride and/or fix the rattles in the dash? Thanks, Fred
