The rockers on my otherwise almost pristine wagon are a mess. Apparently, when the PO had the front floor pans replaced, the replacement pans had no drain slots stamped into them. So moisture has been collecting in the front parts of the rockers and rust has penetrated in many places.
Now, I will be effectively covering those rockers with side skirts that attach right beneath the rubber trim strip. So the rockers don't need to look good, but they need to remain solid to hold the fiberglass skirts in place.
Any recommendations on arresting the rust? I was thinking of 1)grinding out the holes to bare metal from the outside, 2)saturating the inside with Ospho (after somehow cleaning all the leaves and trash out), and 3)coating the inside with Waxoyl or something similar. Oh, and drilling some holes along the bottom in lieu of the missing drain slots.
Any advice/experience appreciated. This is my V8 baby and I want it to last a long time.
