Hello, my tank is so rusted it needs replacing. I've never done it before so I thought I would practice by removing the tank from an 84 sedan down at the dump. If the tank from the 84 looks clean and doesnt leak I will use it in my 87 wagon. I found new tanks on the internet for 150.00 but shipping to Hawaii would raise the cost out of my budget. I think I read in archives that you can take bad tanks to a radiator shop for cleaning.The shops here don't.

Someone on this forum suggested a fuel cell, I like the idea of a plastic tank. If for some reason my sending unit doesnt fit the new plastic tank could I substitute one that would? Is there a reason I absolutely need the volvo sending unit?

I suppose any tank within the dimensions of the original would be fine, 18x36x12 and if the sending unit hole doesnt match the hole in the sheetmetal in the cargo area i could sawzall a new hole.
