A few days ago I posted about a 240 that was dying intermittently. Well yesterday we found the problem. Took all day to find a VERY simple problem. Replaced a lot of parts in the meantime that weren't the problem.
The plug marked with the purple line turned out to be the source of a good deal of frustration- the car would stall at highway speeds, or sometimes when idling, or sometimes not at all. Finally found I was losing 12V at the coil... then it would return. After replacing the distributor, coil, and ignition computer (which is rarely a problem on an 87) and thoroughly inspecting the harness, I found this plug making poor contact internally. Bent the pins for a tighter fit, and plugged it in securely. Problem solved.
