Failed NOX emissions ruined my day 200

My 1990 240 with 276500 miles just failed emissions for NOX. Just replaced the O2 sensor which corrected a rich running condition. Thought I would pass with flying colors. 14 years and all the miles its probably time for a catalytic converter. Any stories of similiar fails and fixes out there?
